Re: ekiga-list Digest, Vol 150, Issue 5

Ekiga General mailing list
I finally checked the software available to Kubuntu Linux 20.04 users (the KDE version of Ubuntu 20.4) installed on my Lenovo R400 laptop:
  • Ekiga is missing
  • Linphone is present
Has anybody had the opportunity to check the interoperability of Ekiga and Linphone as they both use the SIP protocol?

Thank you for your help. I have now got a linphone sip account with the
following details

Sip identity: *********@sip.linphone.org
Username: *********
Email: *****************
Domain/Proxy: sip.linphone.org

Ekiga's Add SIP Account asks me to
Please update the following fields:

Name:
Registrar:
User:
Authentication user:

Name: Presumably would be my given name, but
Registrar: I haven't got a clue
User: probably my username, but then what is
Authentication user: must be different to User: or only one would be asked
for;other than that I don't have a clue.

Please advise, in the words of an old limerick, who does what, and with
which, and to whom?

Ekiga is no longer maintained as was announced on this list a long time
ago.

I have used both ekiga and linphone with several sip registrars, and
both worked. Linphone still does. I haven't tried ekiga for a long time:
unless you are going to take over maintenance, I would forget it.
